Willy Witte (born July 26, 1908 in Braunschweig ; † December 8, 1998 ) was a German actor .

biography

At the age of seven, Witte received his first extra role in Braunschweig. After graduating from school, he completed an acting training and found an artistic home in Hamburg. There he played u. a. at the Operettenhaus , but also made a name for himself as a folk actor at the St. Pauli Theater .

Witte had a long friendship with Richard Tauber , whom he brought to the Netherlands in 1933 by bribing the German customs officers.

In 1937 Witte also made his feature film debut in the comedy Five Million Looking for an Heir . In the following years he played in light entertainment such as Der Florentiner Hut (with Heinz Rühmann ), Women Are Better Diplomats , We Dance Around the World , Guest Performance in Paradise , Bachelor's Paradise , Opera Ball , crime films such as Detective Inspector Eyck and counterfeiters , adventure films such as Alarm on Station III , historical dramas like The Great King , but also in tendentious war films like Stukas and … riding for Germany . His few post-war productions include the music film The Third From Right and Gripsholm Castle by Kurt Tucholsky .

On television he took on various guest appearances in series and film series such as Stahlnetz , Tatort , Special Department K1 , Percy Stuart and Großstadtrevier from the 1950s .

Witte also worked as a spokesman for radio (including Die Hour des Huflattichs , NDR 1980) and children's radio plays (including Der Schut ) and as a voice actor lent his voice to various German-language versions of American film productions (including Eugene Deckers in Nacht ohne Sterne ).

Willy Witte died at the age of 90. He was buried in the Ohlsdorf cemetery . The grave is in grid square H 13.

  1. Some sources, u. a. filmportal.de give Witte 1912 as the year of birth. However, on July 26, 1993, the Hamburger Morgenpost dedicated an article to him on the occasion of his 85th birthday ( The good god means good to me ) in which the jubilee commented on his special day.
