We dance around the world is a German revue film from 1939.

action

The dancers from Jenny Hill's school are among the most sought-after of their craft. On guest tours, Norma, as "captain" of the troupe, watches over the girls' discipline with authority and empathy. But others envy the success of the Jenny Hill troupe. Therefore, the competition puts the attractive Harvey on the girls, who is supposed to sow discord among the dancers and split the group. But thanks to Norma's watchful gaze, Harvey's request remains unsuccessful. Only when the agent Torstone appears on the scene and promises some of the dancers a solo career does the competition seem to succeed. But then Harvey, who has long since lost his heart to Norma, discovers his conscience and decides to act.

background

The film is a production by Tobis Filmkunst GmbH . The shooting took place in June and July 1939 in the Theater des Volkes and in the Varietétheater Plaza in Berlin . We dance around the world celebrated its premiere on December 22, 1939 in Düsseldorf .

In addition to dancing and being young , the film also features the hit song Once you will be with me again, made famous by Rudi Schuricke , sung by Carl Raddatz . Both titles are penned by Willi Kollo , who also had the idea for the film. The later commissioner actor from the crime series of the same name, Erik Ode , and Gisela Schlueter , who became known as a fast spokeswoman, can be seen in smaller roles .

Hanns-Georg Rodek calls Wir Tanz um die Welt the “German prototype” of the countless music and dance films with which Hollywood in the 1930s captured the “loves and sorrows of long-legged revue girls” on celluloid. The film critic of the world notes, not without astonishment, that there is "no other film from the Nazi era where a woman so openly courted a woman: Charlotte Thiele rejected Beau Carl Raddatz and let Irene von Meyendorff swarm her around."

criticism

"Unrealistic revue and equipment film."
