Maly Nagl

Amalie "Maly" Nagl (married Wolfsecker ; * February 2, 1893 in Vienna ; † December 20, 1977 there ) was a Viennese dudler and Viennese song singer .

Life

Maly Nagl came from a family of folk singers, her grandfather Ignaz Nagl (July 29, 1831 in Schottenfeld - December 31, 1872 in Vienna) and her mother Marie (February 12, 1854 in Gmünd - December 18, 1945 in Vienna) practiced this profession out. At the age of nine, Nagl appeared on stage with her sister Maria (Mizzi, 1888–?). In 1908 Peter Altenberg wrote about a performance by Nagl in the Viennese Cabaret Fledermaus : "[...] Amalia Nagel, the fifteen year old, is a piece of art, a very dearest one, as a dirndl in an old Linz costume with a gold bonnet, performing an old Austrian song [.. .] She is actually the very best there is to be a Viennese singer. As young as she is, she is a noble remnant of times gone by, around 1850 [...]. ”“ The Nagl sisters are real girls from the people, […] They are natural talents in their field. You don't know a note and still sing wonderfully. There is enough voice [...] There is something heartfelt about her presentation [...], her movements are flirtatious, but it is not calculated coquetry. "

With her impressive alto voice, confident intonation , large pitch range and clear pronunciation, she celebrated great success, especially in her solo performances, so that she never had to perform professionally in ensembles or at the Heurigen. Nagl appeared in concerts, for example in the Wiener Konzerthaus or in the Raimundtheater and regularly in the RAVAG and later in Rot-Weiß-Rot , but also made guest appearances in contemporary entertainment establishments of her time, such as the Gschwandner, the woodcock or the Engelmann arena, albeit less often at Heurigen .

Nagl had been married to the Wienerlied composer Fritz Wolfsecker ("Fritz Wolferl"; September 29, 1899 in Vienna - June 15, 1974 ibid.) From 1924 , who wrote numerous Viennese songs for them. Other composers, such as Rudolf Kronegger , also dedicated works to her. Nagl is considered the epitome of the old Viennese dudler and was one of the first women to become known as a popular singer.

She was buried in an honorary grave in the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 13B, Row 1, No. 23).

When she was 14, she and her sister Mizzi recorded eight songs for Zonophone Records, two of which have been preserved: Echo der Liebe (T .: W. Jürgens, M .: Wilhelm Rosenzweig ) and Goldener Turigrund . In the 1920s and 1930s she made numerous shellac records , and from the 1950s her records were released by Philips , on which she also performed her husband's compositions.

Her companions included u. a. the Faltl-Kemmeter-Schrammeln, the Original Lanner Quartet, the Lanner Terzett Haselbrunner, the Lanske-Schrammeln, Stefan Putz-Plattner or Willi Strohmayer.
