Theodor Franz Schild (born August 26, 1859 in Vienna ; † September 5, 1929 there ) was an Austrian composer. He wrote songs, dance tunes and couplets and wrote marching music .

Life

Schild was the son of the conductor and music teacher Martin Schild, who gave him his first music lessons. The choir director Joseph Arthur Rotter gave him further lessons. For a while he was active as a church musician. From 1881 he wrote compositions. From 1886 until his death in 1929 he worked as an employee at the music publisher Robitschek .

His honorary grave is located in the Vienna Central Cemetery (80-20-37). Schildgasse was named after him in 2007 in the Simmering district of Vienna .

Schild wrote around 2000 compositions for folk singers and musicians, including the march “Our Steffel” (1881), which became a popular hit . His best-known work, “Das is' n Weana san Schan!” (1887), he modified from a couplet by Carl Schmitter (1849-1897). He wrote stage music, for example for productions of the Schwendertheater in Rudolfsheim and the Etablissement Wendl in Döbling .
