Josef Klein (composer)

Josef Klein (born November 12th, 1870 in Vienna ; † September 12th / 13th, 1933 there ) was an Austrian violinist, conductor and composer.

Life

Josef Klein received musical training at the Conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde . His teachers included Josef Hellmesberger junior and Josef Vockner . In 1885/86 he attended the subject of harmony with Anton Bruckner . From 1889 to 1932 he was primary violinist at the Vienna Court and State Opera (from 1913 also ballet conductor) and member of the Vienna Philharmonic , which also performed his compositions. His stage works, in which dance rhythm and melody are the focus, have been performed in the Carltheater , at the Court and Volksoper and in the Theater an der Wien .

He was buried at the Baumgartner Friedhof .
