Josef Vockner
Josef Vockner (born March 18, 1842 in Ebensee , † April 11, 1906 in Vienna ) was an Austrian composer and organist.
Live and act
Josef Vockner received his first music lessons from his father of the same name. At the age of 16 he began an apprenticeship as a clerk in the salt works of Ebensee. After quitting this service, he gave private music lessons and became an organist in Bad Ischl . In 1871 he moved to Vienna and from 1876 was a student of Anton Bruckner . In 1890 he took over Bruckner's professorship at the Conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna , where Ella Pancera was one of his students.
His works, which include 112 opus numbers, include the oratorio Das Weltgericht ( premiered in 1897 by the Wiener Singverein ), a violin sonata in D major op.4, a piano quartet in C op.6, a piano quintet op.70, songs, and several masses and works for organ.
