Jürgen Hein (born January 12, 1942 in Cologne ; † December 1, 2014 in Vienna ) was a German literary scholar and university professor .

After graduating from high school, he studied German , philosophy and education at the University of Cologne . In 1968 he received his doctorate in philosophy. From 1969 he also worked as a lecturer at the Pedagogical University of Rhineland, Cologne department. In 1972 he completed his habilitation in Cologne. From 1973 until his retirement in 2007, Hein was professor for modern German literary studies and literary didactics at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster .

Editions and Studies

Hein published mainly on Ferdinand Raimund , Johann Nestroy and the Alt-Wiener Volkstheater , as well as on the history of the village and the folk play. He was co-editor and tape editor (11 volumes with 15 pieces) of the new historical-critical Nestroy edition ( HKA Nestroy , 1977-2004).

Hein was also the editor of anthologies ( German anecdotes , parodies of the Vienna Volkstheater , Nestroy for pleasure , Viennese songs ). He also wrote essays on the writers and poets Willibald Alexis , Berthold Auerbach , Christian Dietrich Grabbe , Franz Grillparzer , Friedrich Hebbel , Karl von Holtei , Ödön von Horváth , Wolfgang Koeppen , Karl May , Fritz Reuter , Peter Rosegger , Adalbert Stifter , Carl Zuckmayer and many others.

In 2015, the Jürgen Hein research library was added to the Brenner archive.
