Emmerich Arleth

Emmerich Arleth (born August 14, 1900 in Vienna ; died November 11, 1965 there ) was an Austrian actor and interpreter of Viennese songs.

Life

After attending drama school, he appeared as a comedian in variety shows, cabarets and operetta stages from 1927, and he was also heard on the radio. In Vienna he could be seen from 1939 to 1941 at the Revuebühne Femina and from 1953 at the Raimundtheater . From 1934 to 1938 and from 1945 he was active in the trade union, among other things as president of the art and liberal professions section . In 1959 he founded the social work for Austrian artists.

He was particularly interested in the interpretation of the Wienerlied , he was honorary president of the Das Wienerlied association .

Arleth died on November 11, 1965 at the age of 65 and was buried in an honorary grave at the Vienna Central Cemetery (Ehrenhain Kulturschaffender Gruppe 40, number 19).

A memorial plaque, which was unveiled on November 5, 1967, is attached to his house at Hebragasse 1 in Vienna's 9th district. In 1972 Arlethgasse in the 19th district of Döbling in Vienna was named after him.
