Rudolf Kronegger

Rudolf Kronegger ( March 24, 1875 in Vienna - June 15, 1929 there ) was an Austrian song composer and singer .

life and work

Kronegger was the son of a hairdresser and composed numerous Viennese songs that were extremely popular with the public. Carl Michael Ziehrer publicly performed his waltz Echts Weana Bluat in 1895 and was subsequently one of his sponsors. Kronegger was considered one of the most talented composers of this genre and was praised for its powerful originality. Many of his songs were based on texts by the poet Josef Johann Hadrawa and were often performed by Alexander Girardi . He encouraged Karl Föderl to pursue his career and also wrote many songs for the famous Viennese song singer Maly Nagl . It belonged to the Austrian Association of Composers , which promoted the dissemination of works by contemporary composers. On his initiative, RAVAG broadcast an evening on February 13, 1926 with “Wiener Weisen”, during which works by Kronegger were heard on the radio for the first time.

Kronegger died of tuberculosis in 1929 . It rests in the Vienna Central Cemetery (30A-16-2).
