Parish cemetery Nussdorf

The parish cemetery Nussdorf is a cemetery in the 19th Vienna district Döbling . In contrast to most of the Viennese cemeteries, it is not owned by the City of Vienna.

location

The parish cemetery Nussdorf is located in the northeast of Döbling in the cadastral community Nussdorf , Nussberggasse 48. It was created on the slope of the Nussberg and is bordered in the south by the Nussberggasse. The eastern border forms the alley Am Weingebirg , to the west and north green areas and vineyards border the cemetery.

history

The first cemetery was around 1600 in the Eichelhofstrasse / Hackhofergasse area. A new cemetery was created in the course of the elevation of Nussdorf to a parish in Hammerschmidtgasse 7-9. The cemetery was not fenced in and covered 932 square fathoms . As early as 1837, the cemetery proved to be too small, and the occupancy increased due to the many deceased foundlings from the infant care facility that opened in 1857. Due to the increasing space problems, the Imperial and Royal Lieutenancy ordered the relocation of the cemetery.

Two vineyards in the Untere Schos vineyard were purchased for the new construction of the Nussdorf cemetery . The cemetery was consecrated on June 25, 1867, the old cemetery closed in 1868. After a period of 30 years, the property of the old cemetery could be used as a field or meadow. For a long time there was no usable mortuary at the Nussdorf cemetery. In 1933 it was decreed that the bodies had to be laid out due to the desolate condition of the mortuary chamber in the Heiligenstadt cemetery . Until 1960, the bodies were also laid out in the Nussdorf parish church. A new mortuary was finally opened in October 1960. In 1968, a ground floor extension was added to the funeral hall and an accommodation room to the left of the entrance.
