The Nussberg (until 1999 officially: Nußberg) is a 332-meter-high mountain in the district part Nussdorf in the 19th Vienna district Döbling .

geography

The Nussberg is a 332 meter high mountain north of Nussdorf. In the north is the slope of the Leopoldsberg to the Waldbachtal and the Kahlenberg to the Iron Hand. In the west and south it is bounded by the Schreiberbach (Muckental). The Nussberg lies on the eastern edge of the Vienna Woods and represents the extreme north-eastern foothills of the Eastern Alps . Geologically, it belongs to the flysch zone , which is composed of sandstone , marl and claystone .

history

The Nussberg was first mentioned in documents in 1226 as Nuzperc , and in the 14th to 16th centuries it was mentioned as monte nucum . The name of the mountain indicates that this mountain was overgrown with hazelnut bushes before the clearing and with nut trees near Nussdorf . Soon, however, the Nussberg was used for viticulture , and even today the Nussberg is almost entirely covered with vines. Today the Nussberg's winemakers press white wines, among other things, according to the protected rules of the “ Mixed sentence” .
