Spillern is an Austrian market town with 2,428 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Korneuburg district in Lower Austria .
geography
Spillern is located in the Weinviertel in Lower Austria, east of Stockerau and 22 km northwest of Vienna . The area of the market town covers 12.7 square kilometers. 46.66 percent of the area is forested. In the south, Spillern borders the Danube .

history
- 1230 - First documentary mention under "Spilarn"
- 1363 - The Hardegg count dynasty owns Spillern
- before 1400 - Maissau possessions in Spillern
- 1451 to the 16th century - possessions of the Zelking von Sierndorf in Spillern
- around 1600 - there was already a Schafflerhof and a hunter's house
- 1683 - Drill and parade ground in Spillern for the surrounding area due to the Turkish siege

Population development
As part of the Vienna area, Spillern has a particularly strong population growth. The growth will continue in the coming decades. The increase in the population is caused by a positive birth balance , but above all by a very high balance of migration . In the ten years from 2001 to 2011 there were 34 more births than deaths, but 380 more people moved to Spillern than from Spillern.

Culture and sights
- Catholic Parish Church Spillern : The parish church was completed in 1965 and raised to a parish church in 1966.
- Evangelical Heilandskirche Spillern : The former Catholic chapel was left to the Protestant community after the new building and is now part of the parish of the Evangelical parish AuHB Stockerau.
economy
In 2001 there were 82 non-agricultural workplaces, agricultural and forestry holdings 7 according to the 1999 survey. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment at the place of residence was 800. In 2001, the activity rate was 48.25 percent.
- Greifenstein power plant
- In 2010, EVN Wärme built a biomass heating plant in Spillern . In the first stage of expansion, the community center, kindergartens, elementary school and some residential buildings (approx. 125 residential units in total) will be supplied with district heating . The use of wood chips is around 1,000 cubic meters per year.

- Spillern golf course: Spillern also has its own golf course, which is secluded close to the neighboring village of Wiesen.
- Sports field / soccer field: The home field of SV Spillern , this was founded in 1922
- Asphalt curling lane: There is an asphalt curling lane with 4 lanes next to the sports field.
- Beach volleyball court: In addition to the asphalt stick facility, there is a beach volleyball court in Spillern.
