history
The church was built in 1831 as the Roman Catholic parish church “Mariahilf” and, after the rebuilding of today's Catholic parish church in Spillern, was sold to the Protestant parish of Stockerau.
The evangelical believers of the parish Spillern were originally cared for by the parish of the Evangelical parish church Floridsdorf in Vienna. In 1927 Spillern came under the administration of the newly founded parish of Korneuburg , and since 1951 Spillern has been looked after by the Protestant parish AuHB Stockerau .
Until the 1950s, believers were forced to attend services outside of the congregation, for example in Korneuburg or Stockerau. Only with the construction of the new Roman Catholic parish church in Spillern did it become possible to have an evangelical preaching station in Spillern. The church, which was originally used by the Catholic community and now has no function, was in dire need of renovation and threatened with demolition. In order to keep the church in its appearance, the church was sold to the Protestant parish of Stockerau. After a thorough renovation, the Vienna superintendent Georg Traar inaugurated the church on September 28, 1969. In Spillern there is currently a biweekly service which is attended by an average of 16 parishioners (2007). The parish is of mixed denomination: In addition to members of its home church, the Evangelical Church AB, it also accepts members of the Evangelical Church HB as members.
