history

It was not until 1750 that a wooden chapel was built for the Catholics in Spillern on Stockerauer Strasse. In place of the chapel, the parish Stockerau built a branch church in 1831, which was consecrated on August 15, 1931 under the name "Maria Hilf". However, the small building soon became too small for the rapidly growing community. That is why a new church was planned and built during the time of the Second Vatican Council . At the same time, a parish hall and a youth center were opened. The completed church was consecrated on September 5, 1965 under the title "To the Holy Spirit". The old branch church in need of renovation was left to the Protestant parish Stockerau, which rededicated the church in 1969 as the Heilandskirche Spillern . On January 1, 1966, it was raised to a separate parish. The first pastor was Josef Rinder. He was followed in 1976 by Pastor Franz Forsthuber, who, in addition to the parish of Spillern, also looks after the parish of Kleinwilfersdorf (municipality of Leitzersdorf ) with the branch churches of Oberrohrbach and Unterrohrbach (municipality of Leobendorf ). Paul Dubovsky has been the parish moderator in the parishes of Spillern and Kleinwilfersdorf since September 2016.

architecture

The parish church of Spillern is a modern, low-rise building with a 32 m high bell tower and attached Marienkapelle. Inside, the parish church was designed according to the guidelines of the conciliar liturgical reform of 1963. The white marble altar was placed in the center of the apse . The concrete glass windows designed by the Viennese artist Clarisse Praun are architecturally significant . The curved main window has a width of 10.5 m, a height of 5.5 m and closes the apse to the south. The incident sunlight and the colorful glass stones create a special atmosphere in the church. The six windows on the eastern side of the church show the sacraments , with the sacrament of baptism missing. This is represented by the baptismal font, which is situated at the beginning of the row of windows. The concrete glass windows of the Marienkapelle are dedicated to the life of St. Mary .

Bells

In the bell room hang four bells that were cast by the bell foundry Pfundner in Vienna. The small bell dates from 1948, the other in 1965. They heard the beat tones it one , as 1 , c 2 and 2 ( A flat major - chord ).
