history

In 1187 the place "Stetin" was mentioned for the first time in a document. At that time, Stetten was given to Klosterneuburg Abbey as a fief . In the 14th century Stetten became an independent pastoral care unit.

Even during this time, the place was not spared from armed conflicts. In 1529, quarters and food had to be provided for the imperial army mobilized against the Turks . In the 17th century the Thirty Years War , the plague and the second Turkish siege shaped the history of Stetten. In 1685 Stetten received its own village rights. Even in the 18th century. the population suffered from the plague in the village.

The year 1809 went down in Austrian history as the year of the French Wars . In the area of Stetten / Korneuburg there were also armed conflicts. Many Stettner fled into the surrounding forests. The time after the Congress of Vienna brought economic upswing again. High prices could be achieved for food and wine in Vienna. The turmoil of 1848 did not affect Stetten significantly, but the subsequent new imperial constitution meant that Stetten was given an independent administration. In 1850 the election of the first mayor took place. The end of the 19th century was a peaceful time for the small town. In 1904 the new church was ceremoniously opened. 40,000 crowns from the municipal treasury were made available for the construction of the state railway. The two world wars , however, meant great suffering again. After that it went steadily upwards.

In the last few decades, Stetten has changed from a purely rural village to a population structure in which almost all professional groups are represented. However, Stetten is still a place that is known for its wine taverns and vineyards . In 1987 an 800th anniversary celebration was held, for which a home book was written by the late dean Josef Levit. With the decision of the Lower Austrian state government of March 17, 1987, the municipality of Stetten is entitled to use a municipal coat of arms. Stetten has been a member of the regional development association 10 vor Wien since 2006 .

coat of arms

"In a shield split under a silver shield head, a silver fall crutch in front, in green a silver wheel in the back, the head of the shield covered with a green four-leaf vine tendril".

Population development

Many communities in the Vienna area are growing rapidly. After the south, this also applies increasingly to the north of Vienna. In 2016, 1,688 people moved from Vienna to the Weinviertel. While the birth balance in Stetten was around zero in the past few decades , it grew to +55 in the period from 2001 to 2011. In the same period, the balance of migration was even more positive: 136 more people moved to Stetten than from Stetten.

In the course of the EIA procedure for S 1, the municipality of Stetten incorporated several requirements and suggestions for improvement into the project. The S 1 in the municipal area of Stetten will be built in a lower position with a continuous enclosure . Another important demand from Stetten is to relieve traffic on Landesstraße 33 by means of a bypass north of Stetten in the direction of Bundesstraße 6 (Laaer Straße) .

The bypass will be realized through the planned Harmannsdorf-Rückersdorf , Tresdorf , Seebarn and Stetten bypass . In May 2007, Governor Erwin Pröll gave the approval for the start of construction of the B 6 bypass in 2010. According to the latest information, the planned traffic opening is planned for 2016.
