history

Finds in the local area show a Middle Neolithic ( Lengyel culture ), Middle Bronze Age, Urnfield and Hallstatt settlement. The Venus von Langenzersdorf , found in the “Burleiten” district between 1955 and 1956, is a testimony to this cultural epoch.

Langenzersdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1108 . Klosterneuburg Abbey , on the other side of the Danube, had been the largest landowner since the 12th century and ruled it. The place named Langen-Enzersdorf in 1680 had been a post office since the middle of the 17th century. In the middle of the 19th century a ship station and a railway station of the Nordwestbahngesellschaft were built, which brought the place an economic boom. From the end of the 19th century, villas and garden houses were increasingly built.

On October 15, 1938, Langenzersdorf became part of the 21st district of Greater Vienna .

The Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Crop Plant Research was founded in Tuttenhof in 1943 , and Hans Stubbe became its director . In the following year it received generous support from the German Research Foundation ; the research takes place within the framework of the general plan east . After the Second World War , the institute was relocated to Central Germany, where it existed from 1945 to 1991 as the Central Institute for Genetics and Crop Plant Research of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR , the successor to which was the Leibniz Institute for Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research .

After the Second World War, Langenzersdorf belonged to the Soviet occupation zone of Lower Austria , but until 1954 it was part of Greater Vienna with legislative restrictions. It was not until 1954 that Langenzersdorf became part of the Korneuburg district again as an independent municipality. In 1960 Langenzersdorf was raised to a market town.

Langenzersdorf has been part of Kleinregion 10 before Vienna since 2006 .

  • The local branch of the SPÖ, which regularly attacked political opponents, but also journalists such as Kurier editor - in - chief Martina Salomon , caused repeated criticism throughout Austria . Among other things, a boycott of the daily newspaper Kurier was called, because the local group was dissatisfied with the depiction of the SPÖ federal chairman Pamela Rendi-Wagner in pictures. Due to the local party's "left-wing extremist public relations work" in their opinion, all four SPÖ municipal councils announced at the end of 2018 that they no longer want to work with the party in the future.

Culinary specialties

Langenzersdorf has been a well-known center of wine growing since time immemorial . Many wine taverns in town point to this.

In the spring of 2000, seven local wine growers decided to produce a common wine. The criteria for the grapes to be produced were defined jointly, and several vineyard inspections were carried out during the growing season. The common reading date was set and the grapes were carefully processed in a wine cellar on Bisamberg. The Grüner Veltliner and Welschriesling varieties are now maturing into the Langenzersdorfer “Venus-Cuveé”. Parallel to the grape production, Langenzersdorfer artists were invited to a label competition on the subject of Venus and Wine. Martina Schettina won this competition.

On the occasion of the 900th anniversary of Langenzersdorf in 2008, the same vintners of the Venus wine created the "ENZO" wine. A Cabernet Sauvignon was used here. The mascot of the 900-year celebration of Langenzersdorf, which was created as part of a children's painting competition, was also used for the wine label.
