from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Langenzersdorf Museum , formerly the Hanak Museum , is located in Langenzersdorf north of Vienna. A large part of the museum is dedicated to the work of the sculptor Anton Hanak .

History of origin

Anton Hanak spent over twenty years of his life in the market town of Langenzersdorf. The sculptor lived in Kellergasse from 1901 to 1921. The Hanak Museum was built in Oberen Kirchengasse not far from his house . A sculpture garden is attached to the museum .

Initially, the museum consisted of the garden and the above-ground building of the so-called "champagne cellar", which the community had made available to the museum association. After the renovation work, the works bought by the state of Lower Austria from the estate were presented to the public for the first time. The Hanak Museum was opened on June 6, 1970.

The director of the museum is Gregor-Anatol Bockstefl. After a general renovation, the museum reopened on May 17, 2014.

Duration

Numerous large sculptures and preparatory studies can be found in the display collection of the Langenzersdorf Museum. Works that Anton Hanak designed on behalf of the City of Vienna deserve special mention , such as the Viktor-Adler bust for the republic monument on Vienna's Ringstrasse or the Mother of Sorrows at the Vienna Central Cemetery . Works that Hanak created for his patron Otto Primavesi are also documented here. The museum contains studies on the larger than life sculpture of Margarethe Stonborough-Wittgenstein and on the Pietà . The designs for the monumental "Emniyet Monument" in Ankara are kept here.
