Alois Heidel (born December 30, 1915 in Vienna ; † November 21, 1990 there ) was an Austrian sculptor .

Life

Alois Heidel completed an apprenticeship as a belt maker and chaser . After he was forced to work as a fitter in an aircraft factory in 1938, he began to study at the Munich Art Academy in 1943. In 1944 he was drafted into the military and was taken prisoner in the south of France.

From 1946 to 1953 he studied sculpture at the University of Applied Arts Vienna under Fritz Wotruba . Subsequently, from 1953 to 1969, Heidel created numerous sculptures for the City of Vienna. Many of them are accessible in the then newly created municipal housing in Vienna.

The bronze sculpture of the goat in the Georg-Emmerling-Hof triggered a public debate because it contradicted the contemporaries' view of nature, devoid of any idyll or trivialization. The goat was perceived as emaciated and reminded contemporaries of times of need that had just been overcome, which was irritating in times of reconstruction optimism.

From 1975 Heidel also worked as a restorer at the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna .

From 1954 he was a member of the Secession.
