The Georg-Emmerling-Hof is located at Obere Donaustraße 97-99 in Vienna's Leopoldstadt . The municipal housing named after Georg Emmerling is under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

The communal residential complex was built from 1953 to 1957 according to the plans of the architects Rudolf Hofbauer, Leo Kammel junior and Elisabeth Hofbauer-Lachner.

architecture

The residential complex forms the western end of a Grätzl , Obere Donaustraße in the south, Lilienbrunngasse in the west and Gredlerstraße in the north. Seven wings, one on top of the other, enclose a green courtyard.

art

In a side courtyard there is a free sculpture of a goat from 1957 by Alois Heidel . The goat sparked heated discussions among contemporaries because they perceived it as emaciated and thus reminded them of times of need that had just been overcome. The plastic is also under protection and has its own entry . On the facade facing Obere Donaustraße, two natural stone reliefs are attached as overhangs. The works with the titles Hafenmotiv and Markt were created by Ernst Wenzelis between 1954 and 1956 .
