Georg Emmerling
Georg Emmerling (born July 12, 1870 in Vienna , † December 12, 1948 there ) was an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Workers' Party of Austria (SDAP).
Life
Georg Emmerling, the son of a weaver assistants was after the completion of the eight-year elementary school aid Drechsler . There followed years of wandering through Italy , the Switzerland , Germany , Holland and England . In July 1889, at the age of 19, he attended the Socialist Congress in Paris, which founded the Second International and for the first time decided to celebrate May Day as a workers' holiday. After his return he was in the military for three years and then went through several stages in a row in the Vienna Socialist Party, as a civil servant in the health insurance company to the manager of the consumer association "Vorwärts", until he was then proposed by the Leopoldstätter socialists for a municipal council mandate. His political career then brought him to the office of Vice Mayor of Vienna.

During his term of office, among other things, the takeover of the Wiener Stadtbahn and its electrification fell . After the civil war in 1934 he was under police supervision. In 1945 Georg Emmerling was supposed to become mayor of Vienna , but he declined for health reasons.

Georg Emmerling was one of the initiators of the construction of the forward building on the right Wienzeile .
Commemoration
- Georg Emmerling was buried in a grave of honor in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 14 C, number 15).
- The Georg-Emmerling-Hof community building erected between 1953 and 1957 in Obere Donaustraße 97-99 near Marienbrücke was named after him.
