Paul Cont
Paul Kont (born August 19, 1920 in Vienna ; † December 26, 2000 there ) was an Austrian composer .
Life
After studying at the Vienna Conservatory (1939/40) and the Academy for Music and Performing Arts (1945/49), Paul Kont took part in the Darmstadt summer courses (1951) (among others with Wolfgang Fortner ). Paul Kont also studied in Paris with Darius Milhaud , Olivier Messiaen and Arthur Honegger .
In the 1950s Paul Kont composed some works for the dancer and choreographer Hanna Berger, but he also played his own compositions in the Art Club . One of these compositions bears the name of one of the venues where the members met. It is the Strohkoffer Suite for violin and piano, which Paul Kont's friend Friedrich Cerha later arranged for a small instrumental ensemble. Paul Kont became known to a broader public as Herodes with Helmut Qualtinger through his mystery play "Meanwhile", which was broadcast several times on television, based on WH Auden .
Paul Kont developed his own tonality (“third tonality”). From 1980 to 1986 Paul Kont was a professor at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts.
Paul Kont died on December 26, 2000 in Vienna. His honorary grave is in Group 40 at the Vienna Central Cemetery .
