history
The origin of the place is traced back to the foundation of a church by the Passau cathedral chapter "before 1014". In 1147 the church is called "Sanct Stephani ad Wachrein". In contracts of 1222 the place is shown as a toll station . In 1421 the place name "Kirichperig" appears for the first time. 1493 awarded Emperor Friedrich III. the place the market right .
The pilgrimage church Maria Trost , built in the 12th century, was changed to Baroque style in the 17th century and can be seen from afar. In Good Oberstockstall the lab was an alchemist discovered.
On January 1, 1968, the former communities Dörfl , Engelmannsbrunn , Kollersdorf , Mallon , Mitterstockstall , Neustift im Felde , Oberstockstall , Unterstockstall , Winkl were combined with Kirchberg am Wagram.
In 2002 some districts near the Danube were hit by a devastating flood . In the south the Danube pushed over its banks, and in the north the Kamp flooded the community, which meant that the water from the side turned away from the Danube oppressed the places and could not flow away. Some houses were under water for days. After the Danube floods had sunk that far, the local volunteer fire brigade decided to blow up the dam that was supposed to protect against the Danube so that the water from the Winkl district could flow into the Danube. With that the situation relaxed. A few years earlier, a lock that would have allowed the water to drain off in a controlled manner had not been built for economic reasons.
coat of arms
Blazon : In gold on a base of an arched shield, a meadow in natural colors , on it a church in natural colors (different light shades and shaded hatchings) with a right-angled nave, roofed with red shingles, opening to the front, on each of the front sides a black gate opening, above and next a black arched window each on the inside, a corner placed tower with a protruding tinned red tent roof and two black arched windows on each side in the upper half of the tower.
The church on the arched meadow represented a "church on a mountain". On the one hand, it symbolizes the town's church, which can be seen from afar, and on the other, it names the place name as a so-called " talking coat of arms ".
