Walter Schaupp

Walter Schaupp (born July 17, 1954 in Kirchberg am Wagram ) is an Austrian Catholic moral theologian .

Life

He studied medicine in Innsbruck and Vienna followed by a year-long activity as a regular doctor at the hospital of the Barmherzigen Schwestern Linz and Catholic theology in Vienna and in Rome with a licentiate in dogmatic theology - then priestly ordination ( Archdiocese of Vienna ) and several years of pastoral care for theology students in Vienna. After completing his doctorate in moral theology in 1993 at the University of Vienna on the ethics of human medical research (Helsinki Declaration of the World Medical Association); seven years teaching activity in moral theology at the Religious Education Academy of the Archdiocese of Vienna; Lecturer for the Vienna Medical Association. From 1998 to 2003 he was an assistant in the department for moral theology at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau . After his habilitation in 2002 on the tension between the just and the good, based on the thinking of the Canadian social philosopher Charles Taylor , he accepted the chair for moral theology in the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Graz in 2003 ; since then he has been a full university professor for moral theology there.

His work focuses on medical and bioethical issues, the ethics of the good life, questions about the Christian way of life in a plural society.
