Winkl is a former municipality and now cadastral municipality of Kirchberg am Wagram in Lower Austria .

location

Winkl is located on an oxbow lake not far from the Au in Tullnerfeld . The place is only accessible from the north. On all other sides it is surrounded by alluvial forest.

history

From the first half of the 12th century, Babenberg ministries can be found in Winkl. These are Tiemo , Rahawin and Adalbrecht (around 1130/1140), a Dietmar von Winkl (1130/1141) and Poppo, who was identified as the ancestor of the family . As a result, those named and their descendants appear privileged in the surrounding area. The seat is a moated castle on the site of today's St. Nicholas Church .
