The first mention of Kollersdorf is in 1114 as Qualegesdorf, later names were "Qualeinsdorf", "Choleinsdorf", "Cholesdorf" and "Kollerstorff". Over the centuries, the place has been plagued by all the plagues that hit the people of our area at the time: invasions of the Swedes and Turks, plague and famine, and on top of that came the floods that often flooded entire towns.

Kollersdorf and Sachsendorf are the westernmost places in the market town of Kirchberg am Wagram and cover an area of ​​8.56 square kilometers, of which around 90% are used for agriculture. Today 212 people live in Kollersdorf and 133 in Sachsendorf. In 1830 the population was almost twice that. There were 606 people living in the two villages, most of whom lived from agriculture. The two villages each have their own chapel. The chapel in Kollersdorf was built around the middle of the 19th century. It is dedicated to Saint Sebastian.

Voluntary fire department Kollersdorf - Sachsendorf

The foundation of the voluntary fire brigade Kollersdorf - Sachsendorf is thanks to the mayor Anton Söllner. On March 17, 1895, the volunteer fire department was founded. At that time the association had 32 members. The fire brigade also had four buglers who were responsible for alerting the fire.

The volunteer fire brigade through the ages : The first fire station was located in Kollersdorf near today's war memorial. The cost of the furnishings was borne by the members. In 1914, many members of the fire brigade were called up for the war, but attempts were made to keep the fire fighting system going in Kollersdorf - Sachsendorf.

In 1939, following a decision by the Gauhauptmannschaft, all volunteer fire brigades were dissolved, which means that they ceased to exist as an association. During the Second World War, many volunteer fire brigade men were drafted into the German armed forces.

After the war the fire brigade was re-established, chaired by Captain Karl Reiser. The fire brigades were re-established under association law in 1950.

In 1958, the local council under Mayor Franz Hellmer decided to build a new fire station because the old one had become too small at 25 square meters.

With the entry into force of the Lower Austrian Fire Police and Fire Brigade Act 1970 on December 31, 1969, the volunteer fire brigades were converted into corporations under public law, so on March 11, 1970 the association "Freiwillige Feuerwehr Kollersdorf - Sachsendorf" was dissolved. In 1979 the fire brigade bought a small fire engine. The hose tower, a relic from the time it was founded, had to be removed in 1990.

In January 1988, at the request of Commander Alfred Hellmer, the decision was made to expand the fire station. The new fire station was opened on May 25, 1995 as part of the centenary of its use.

The old school

The former school today

The construction of the school should have started around 1878. On May 5, 1879, it was the first day of school in the elementary school in Kollersdorf. The authority responsible for the school at that time was the local school board. A delegation of this body took place through the election of the municipal council. The school system in Kollersdorf had been run well up to the First World War . During the First World War, half-day instruction was introduced in both classes because the teachers were called up for military service. During the Second World War, classes could be held in the school, but the building was in a desolate condition. Window panes were missing, school books and important teaching materials were stolen. Around 1950 the school was equipped with new tables and armchairs. In 1951 an application was made for a conversion and extension of the elementary school in Kollersdorf, but in 1954 it was discovered that the money would be used for maintenance.

In 1966 the Tulln District School Council announced that the Lower Austrian state government intended to shut down the elementary school for a period of 5 years at the beginning of 1966/67 and to send the schoolchildren to Altenwörth, but the local council spoke in favor a school visit of the children in Kirchberg am Wagram. With a resolution dated April 30, 1971, the state school board for Lower Austria approved the closure of the Kollersdorf elementary school.

Today's usage:

In the left wing of the building you will still find the community chancellery and the mother advisory service. The local youth has found their home in the right wing. The upper floor is used by the Musikverein Kollersdorf - Sachsendorf as a rehearsal room.

Former Freihof

House no. 40, the former Freihof, is a classicist building and was first mentioned in a document in 1797. It is a single-storey, six-axis building with a two-axis mid-gable storey with a triangular gable above the arched entrance. The house is decorated with cornices and plaster structures, as well as stuccoed fruit hangings over the portal and windows. On either side of the entrance there are two low flank buildings that were built in the mid-19th century.

Arena Wagram

For the 2017 Karl May Festival , the Arena Wagram is currently being built in an abandoned gravel pit north of the S5 expressway .
