Friedrich Wessely (chemist)

Friedrich Wessely , born as Wessely von Karnegg (born August 3, 1897 in Kirchberg am Wagram , Lower Austria ; † December 15, 1967 , according to other sources December 16 or 17, in Vienna) was an Austrian chemist.

Life

Wessely studied at the University of Vienna and completed his habilitation in 1929. In 1948 he became head of the II. Chemical Institute at this university. In his research he focused on organic chemistry and especially natural product chemistry . Wessely was a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences , the Academy of New York, Bologna and the German Academy in Halle. In 1962 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . He was co-editor of the monthly magazine for chemistry and belonged to the Austrian patent court. In 1965 he was awarded the Erwin Schrödinger Prize .
