Jakob Damian (born June 2, 1682 in Kirchberg am Wagram , † December 23, 1763 in Vienna ) was an Austrian cloth merchant and founder of a foundation.

Life

Born as the son of Ignaz Damian and his wife Maria Magdalena, he joined his father's linen business and moved to Vienna at the age of a little over 40, where he was economically very successful in the heyday after the Turkish wars .

meaning

On June 26, 1730, he donated a capital of 5,000 guilders, around 700,000 euros in today's value, in favor of his home town of Kirchberg. With this amount, arable land ( Damian fields ) was acquired and then leased in order to fulfill charitable purposes from the lease. Later, a building, the Damian Foundation House , was built to accommodate the needy . The foundation still fully fulfills the intention of its founder and supports community citizens in need, needy or handicapped people.
