history

This area was settled as early as the Neolithic , the later Latène period (finds in Gedersdorf), and later by the Celts , the Quads and the Teutons. The Romans also reached the northern bank of the Danube, as a gravestone find of a Roman soldier under Marc Aurel in Brunn shows. The Lombards stayed here in the 6th century until Charlemagne finally let the Franks and Bavarians colonize the region.

The places of the community often suffered from warlike events such as 1442 under the Hussites, who devastated the area around Krems with robbery and fire. In 1447 and 1486 Matthias Corvinus roamed the towns and besieged Krems. From 1645 to 1646 the population suffered under the Swedes. While Vienna was besieged by the Turks in 1683, the German troops gathered in the region and were also to be fed. At the time of the Wars of Succession, the Hungarians attacked the place in 1741. In 1805 Russians moved through and in 1809 the French lived in the area with 30,000 men. In 1945 the Red Army marched into the community.

In August 2002 the community sank in floods. The nearby Kamp broke through the protective dams and flooded the entire area. The villages were hit by two tidal waves. Only the village of Gedersdorf was not affected by the millennium flood.

In June 2013 the village of Theiss only narrowly escaped a disaster caused by a breaking dam.

coat of arms

Blazon : "A green shield, over a flooded blue shield base with four silver corrugated strips split by a silver bar, on the right a golden scallop shell and a golden heraldic lily, on the left a golden vine with three grapes and three leaves."

Population development

The strong increase in population is due to the combination of a positive birth balance and high immigration.
