history

The first mention of this area goes back to Carolingian times . A deed of donation to the Niederaltaich monastery in Bavaria mentions the "Bohbach" = today Buchbach and the apex of the Ahornic - Ahornberg = today Jauerling.

1193 the place Lo (h) is mentioned in the Vita Altmanni. A sick man from Lo makes a pilgrimage to the grave of St. Bishop Altmann in Göttweig and is healed of his ailments there.

Since a St. Mary's altar is mentioned in connection with a criminal act - the stolen Melker Cross is hidden behind the St. Mary's altar - Maria Laach is likely to have been a place of pilgrimage even then . It is quite possible that there is already an almost millennial pilgrimage tradition here.

Population development

From 1981 to 1991 the migration balance was strongly negative, the birth balance was 0. From 1991 to 2001 both balances were slightly positive, so that the number of inhabitants increased again. After that, emigration increased again and could not be offset by the positive birth balance.
