Jauerling – Wachau nature park

The Jauerling – Wachau nature park is located on the north-western bank of the Danube in Lower Austria . The nature park stretches from the banks of the Danube to the summit of the Jauerling in the Waldviertel . The nature park is located in the communities of Aggsbach Markt , Emmersdorf , Maria Laach , Mühldorf , Raxendorf , Spitz an der Donau and Weiten and was created in 1983. The area with a size of 11,558 ha is characterized as a cultural landscape, predominantly viticulture and fruit growing in the lower elevations and forestry in the higher elevations.

Natural sights

In the national park area there are different natural areas such as wet meadows, semi-arid grassland and extensive forest areas. The area of ​​the sunny slopes above the Danube is the habitat of the green lizard .

Built sights

In the area of ​​the Jauerling summit there is a lookout point and a little north of it a nature park house. In Spitz an der Donau there is the Nature Park BIOthek and in Maria Laach there is a farm shop .
