Raxendorf is located in the Waldviertel in Lower Austria. The area of the market town covers 36.24 km². 51.73 percent of the area is forested.

The community was created in 1969 from the merger of the communities Raxendorf, Mannersdorf, Troibetsberg, Neudorf and Zeining. It was initially called Heiligenblut-Raxendorf.

Culture and sights
- Catholic parish church Raxendorf hl. Gotthard
- The late Gothic parish church in Heiligenblut with a tall tabernacle from the late 15th century and remarkable glass windows.
- Another attraction is the Sassingschlösserl: a castle ruin that, unlike other castles and ruins in the area, was built from chiseled stones.

In 2001 there were 24 non-agricultural workplaces, agricultural and forestry operations 156 according to the 1999 survey. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment at the place of residence was 512. The 2001 participation rate was 47.41 percent.
