Klein-Pöchlarn is an Austrian market town with 1033 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Melk district in Lower Austria .
geography
Klein-Pöchlarn is opposite Pöchlarn on the left, northern bank of the Danube and thus on the southern edge of the Lower Austrian Waldviertel in the Nibelungengau . The area of the market town covers 6.88 square kilometers. 49.48% of the area is forested.
Community structure
Apart from Klein-Pöchlarn there are no further cadastral communities and Klein-Pöchlarn is the only place in the community. Districts are Am Tonberg , Ebersdorf and Im Graben.

history
In ancient times, the left bank of the Danube was occupied by Germanic tribes and it bordered the Roman camp Arelape .
The place first appeared in a document in 1282 with the name "Bösen-Pechlarn", later also "Mindern- or Altenpechlarn", and years later it was also called "Nieder-Pechlarn".
After the First World War around 1920, the market, like many other municipalities in Austria, printed its own emergency money during hyperinflation .
Pöchlarn is now connected to Pöchlarn by the Danube Bridge Pöchlarn , which was opened to traffic on November 14, 2001 after three years of construction. Before that, at least since 1901, there was only one roller ferry across the Danube.
Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census , there were 1002 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 915 inhabitants, in 1981 856 and in 1971 762 inhabitants.

There were 52 non-agricultural workplaces in 2001, as well as 16 agricultural and forestry businesses according to the 1999 survey. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment at the place of residence was 426. The 2001 participation rate was 44.11%.

- Rail: Klein-Pöchlarn was connected to the rail network by the Danube Bank, and there has been no rail traffic since the end of 2010.
