Yspertal is a market town with 1995 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Melk district in Lower Austria .
geography
Yspertal is located in the southern Waldviertel in Lower Austria. The area of the market town covers 47.65 square kilometers. 67.64 percent of the area is forested.
Community structure
The municipality includes the following five localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):
- Haslau (95)
- Kapelleramt (202) including Au, Parming, Prägarten, Rorregg, Stößelberg, Tarsch and Unterschöberlberg
- Next to Altenmarkt (181) including Am Brand, Fischerlehen, Hofedl and Maierhof W
- Wimberg (368) including Am Reith, Dörfl, Graben, Gutenbach, Haide, Höf, Kammerbach, Pichl, Pisching, Siebendürfting and Stangles
- Yspertal (1149) including Altenmarkt, parish houses and Ysper
The community consists of the cadastral communities Altenmarkt, Ysper, Kapelleramt and Wimberg.

history
The community was created in 1966 from the merger of the two communities Ysper and Kapelleramt. In 1969 the municipalities of Altenmarkt and Yspertal merged to form the municipality of Altenmarkt-Yspertal. In 1972 the municipality of Wimberg was connected and the municipality was given its current name.
The Higher Education Institute for Environment and Economics of the Cistercian Monastery of Zwettl has existed in Yspertal since 1990 .
Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1900 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 1834 inhabitants, in 1981 in 1995 and in 1971 in 1933.

The municipal council has a total of 19 seats. Alois Schauer has been Head of Office since March 1, 2010.

Economy and Infrastructure
In 2001 there were 84 non-agricultural workplaces, agricultural and forestry businesses according to the 1999 survey 149. The number of people in work at home was 838 according to the 2001 census. In 2001, the activity rate was 45.15 percent. Yspertal offers its residents and guests an indoor swimming pool.
