history

In 1533 a branch of the Altenmarkt parish church in Yspertal was mentioned in a document. In 1783 the church was elevated to a parish church.

The baroque church was built from 1735 to 1738 according to the plans of the master builder Leopold Wißgrill and consecrated in 1738. In 1840 a tower was added to the west facade. In 1982 the church was restored inside and in 1984 outside.

architecture

The nave with a transept-like extension and the choir are under one roof, the facade has plastered pilaster strips and retracted arched windows. The rectangular south portal shows a wedge stone. The presented three-storey west tower with a hooded roof shows the storeys with profiled cornices, the first storey shows plaster squaring, the second storey a plaster surround, the bell storey has corner pilasters and arched sound windows. The sacristy extension to the east of the choir was increased in 1872 and has a circular window to the east and a round arched portal with a door from the 18th century to the south.

The interior of the church shows a three-bay nave, the bay in front of the choir is widened like a transept, and a one-bay, slightly retracted choir with a semicircular apse.

The decorative ceiling painting in the nave and choir, the apse with an illusionistic coffering, was painted by Ferdinand Andri in 1859. The frescoes on the west wall were created by Carolus Koberwein in 1921, restored in 1982. There is a glass painting of St. Rupert around 1900.

Furnishing

The high altar from 1736 was transferred here from the Franciscan monastery in Ybbs in 1785, the structure of free-standing Corinthian columns and pilasters with a richly cranked entablature and a round-arched top, which occupies the entire width of the apse. In the center, under a canopy, stands the figure of St. Urban probably from the middle of the 16th century, the other figures Francis of Assisi and Antonius of Padua, in the essay Maria Immaculata and Trinity, on the entablature Clare and Coletta, on the cafeteria with the symbol of the Franciscan order there is a magnificent tempietto tabernacle flanked of two adoring angels on wide volutes.

The organ was built by Franz Capek in 1915 , the Rückpositiv is from the old organ from 1841.
