The parish church of Ysper is slightly elevated at the western end of the village of Ysper in the market town of Yspertal in the Melk district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to St. Lawrence of Rome , belongs to the deanery Maria Taferl in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church and the former cemetery are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

The branch church of St. Oswald , which was probably founded in the first half of the 14th century, was mentioned in a document in 1450. The church was sacked by imperial horsemen in 1619. In 1787 the church was elevated to a parish church.

architecture

The church stands on a rectangular market place on the western side of the Yspertal valley, surrounded by the rectory in the south, the area of the abandoned cemetery in the west and the Zumgrün Baum inn in the north.

The church building, which is essentially Gothic, was changed in the neo-Gothic style in 1888/1889, with a Gothic choir, a Baroque nave with southern extensions and a defensive, probably Gothic, Baroque tower on the southwest corner of the nave.

Furnishing

The remarkably uniform neo-Gothic furnishings were created by Josef Kepplinger , Ferdinand Andri and Leopold Hofer in 1888/1889 .

Leopold Breinbauer built the organ in 1891.
