Münichreith-Laimbach is a municipality with 1637 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the southwestern Waldviertel at the foot of the Großer Peilstein . The municipality is located in the Melk district , Lower Austria , Austria .
geography
The community consists of the two capitals Münichreith (approx. 900 inhabitants) and Laimbach am Ostrong (approx. 800 inhabitants). The area of the municipality covers 38.82 km², 57.54% of the area is forested.

As early as 1966, the former municipalities of Münichreith, Kollnitz, Rappoltenreith and Kehrbach merged to form the municipality of Münichreith. Today's community was created in 1971 from the merger of the two communities Münichreith and Laimbach.

history
The Weissenberg ruin dates from the 12th century .
On September 27, 2014, with the blessing of the renovated office building in Münichreith, the community was the last in the district to be awarded a coat of arms.

The majority of the population commutes to work in the nearby small towns of Ybbs an der Donau , Pöchlarn and Melk , but also to St. Pölten and Vienna .
