Kirnberg an der Mank is a municipality with 1,081 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Melk district in Lower Austria .
geography
Kirnberg an der Mank is located south of Melk in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria on the southern edge of the Alpine foothills . The area of the municipality covers 17.66 square kilometers. 17.1 percent of the area is forested.

history
In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .
Kirnberg is a church hamlet that was first mentioned in a document in 1121/28. The town was founded by the Lords of Plankenstein in the 12th century. In 1338 the place was documented as its own parish.
Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1009 inhabitants. In 1991 the municipality had 987 inhabitants, in 1981 918 and in 1971 863 inhabitants. The current (year?) Population is 1081, according to information provided by the municipality.

- The former Hieronymitaner monastery (1759-1816) is now the rectory of Kirnberg.
