Loosdorf is a market town with 3807 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Melk district in Lower Austria .
geography
Loosdorf is located in the Pielach valley in the Lower Austrian Alpine Foreland on the southern edge of the Dunkelsteinerwald in the Mostviertel . The area of the market town covers 11.91 square kilometers. 17.23 percent of the area is forested. The Marktbach flows through Loosdorf .

coat of arms
The Loosdorf coat of arms shows a shield split in red and blue , with a silver oblique left bar at the front, a rising golden panther on a green three-mountain at the back , holding a lantern with a red flame. The coat of arms was awarded on October 6, 1590.
history
In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .
In 1843 the noble Polish family Ledóchowski acquired the estate in Sitzenthal. After the early death of his first wife, Count Antoni August Ledóchowski left Sitzenthal with his three children and built a villa in Loosdorf, which the family lived in until 1874.
At least ten members of the IKG Ybbs / Amstetten from Loosdorf fell victim to the Shoah .
Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 3519 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 3366 inhabitants, in 1981 3216 and in 1971 3224 inhabitants.

- Parish church Loosdorf : The church was originally built in the 17th century as a Protestant church; in the course of the Counter-Reformation, however, it was taken over by the Catholic Church, which it still serves today.
- High School Loosdorf : Hans Wilhelm von Losenstein built it around 1574 as a Protestant grammar school “for (aristocratic and non-aristocratic) youth”. In 1627 it was closed by Ferdinand II during the Counter Reformation .

In 2001 there were 162 non-agricultural workplaces, and according to the 1999 survey there were 38 in agriculture and forestry. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment in the place of residence was 1,642. In 2001 the employment rate was 48.22 percent.
traffic
- Road: Due to the good traffic situation on Wiener Straße B1 (until 2002 Bundesstraße 1), the Westautobahn A1 and the Westbahn , the market is of supraregional importance as a business location. This is particularly favored by the motorway connection and the settlement of a number of companies. The two large petrol stations on the motorway act as the center for the industrial park.
