Heinrich Fasching (born May 24, 1929 in Höfnerberg near Pierbach , Upper Austria ; † June 1, 2014 in St. Pölten ) was auxiliary bishop of the diocese of St. Pölten .

Life

Heinrich Fasching attended the Waidhofen an der Thaya grammar school from 1940 and the Melk Abbey grammar school from 1945 . After graduating from high school , he entered the seminary of the diocese of St. Pölten in 1949 , where he studied philosophy and theology . He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1954 . He was chaplain in Randegg , Loosdorf and St. Valentin and in 1956/57 Vice Rector of the Episcopal Seminary in Melk. He then studied canon law at the Gregorian University in Rome and was awarded a Dr. iur. can. PhD .

From 1960 he was sub-rain of the seminary in St. Pölten, vice official of the diocesan court, ordinariate secretary and diocesan pastor of the Catholic youth workers (girls). From 1968 to 1970 he was professor of canon law at the Philosophical-Theological University of St. Pölten. From 1970 to 1993 he was Ordinary Chancellor and Director of the Diocesan Building Office. Since 1976 he was a member of the cathedral chapter , in 1995 he became provost , and in 1983 deputy vicar general . On October 1, 1991 he was appointed vicar general and was entrusted with the internal management of the diocese by Bishop Kurt Krenn .

On May 24, 1993 he was appointed auxiliary bishop and titular bishop of Acci by Pope John Paul II . The episcopal ordination received his 4 July 1993 Bishop Kurt Krenn; Co- consecrators were former Bishop Franz Žak and Bishop Maximilian Aichern von Linz . His episcopal motto was "Propter nos homines" ("Because of us people").

In the Austrian Bishops' Conference he was given the role of universal church . From 1994 to 2003 he was chairman of the Austrian Commission Iustitia et Pax , and in 1997 he became president of Pax Christi Austria. He was chairman of the coordination office of the Austrian Bishops' Conference for International Development and Mission (KOO) and bishop for the Pontifical Mission Societies "Missio" and the Mission Transport Working Group Austria "MIVA".

On May 24, 2004, he submitted his resignation for reasons of age. Before the resignation was accepted by the Pope, Bishop Kurt Krenn informed him on September 30, 2004 that he would be recalled as Vicar General . Bishop Klaus Küng , who was visiting the diocese of St. Pölten at the time, stated that this delivery was not legally binding. On October 7, Fasching's resignation was accepted by Pope John Paul II .

Carnival is buried in the bishop's crypt of St. Pölten Cathedral .
