Anna Plaim , b. Mittlstrasser, (* 1920 in Loosdorf ) is an Austrian chambermaid. She became known nationwide through her memories of the Berghof , Adolf Hitler's country house on Obersalzberg .

Birth and parents

Anna Plaim was born in 1920 as Anna Mittlstrasser in Loosdorf in Lower Austria. Her father was the guild master of the Lower Austrian Wagner and Landesgewerberat as well as the founder of the Wagner Fachgenossenschaft and its chairman. He owned both a wagon and a small farm. Franz Mittlstrasser was also involved as a religious Catholic in the district party of the Christian Social Party. Her mother was a housewife.

Work and life at the Berghof

Through her cousin Willi Mittlstrasser and his wife Gretel Mittlstrasser, Anna Mittlstrasser came to the Berghof as a chambermaid in 1941 . On arrival, she was involved in a serious accident with a limousine, in which the chauffeur and manager of the Berghof Herbert Döhring ran over a cyclist. This accident had no direct consequences for Anna Plaim.

Together with Elfriede König and Resi Stangassinger, she was mainly responsible for cleaning the guest rooms in the Berghof and the private rooms of Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun . Through her work at the Berghof she became a confidante of Eva Braun. In this way, she was able to save Eva Braun's torn photos from the wastepaper basket during the cleaning, which still give a unique insight into the life of Adolf Hitler's lover.

In 1943 Martin Bormann dismissed her from her employment because of her father's political views. Bormann fought fanatically against religions. She regretted her complete withdrawal, but kept in touch.

Further life

After retiring from the Berghof, after a short stay in Vienna, she returned to her family in Loosdorf. Despite the urging of friends, she stayed in the village when the Red Army arrived and instead of fleeing to avoid being raped , she hid.

In 1948 she married the secondary school teacher Karl Plaim, who died in 1996.

From 2002 to 2003 she wrote the book “Bei Hitler's” in interview form in 23 meetings with Kurt Kuch .

estate

Letters to her parents, a portfolio with color pictures of the Berghof, a blotting paper and a confectionery box from Hitler, as well as torn and cut up photos by Eva Braun have been preserved from her time at the Berghof.
