history

One of the oldest buildings is the Rottenhof in the cadastral community of the same name. From the coat of arms of one of the first owners of the Rottenhof (Mangold Irnfried) the coat of arms of the municipality of Hofamt Priel emerges. In an excerpt from "The Danube Land of the Imperial and Royal Patrimonial Rulers in the Obermannhartsberg District in Lower Austria" by Johann Anton Friedrich Reil , published in 1835, it says:

“Rothenhof near Persenbeug. In 1455 King Ladislaus sold the Rathof to Jorg Frey. In 1533 Mang (Mangold) Irnfrid was the owner (according to the original purchase letter "because of Altenmarkt and Pisching from Ulrich v. Lapitz zu Reiben and Weittenegkh Baider, rights doctor to Manngen. Irnfried van Ratenhof"), and as such he is in the archives of the market in 1550 Milk before. ... Here follows Mang's own signature and seal, a rose in the middle of three peaks. You can also read the addition "vom Rotnhof" to his name on his gravestones in Gottsdorf 1568. Mangold was a Protestant, including his son Andre Irnfrid, who lived in Rothenhof in 1580. "

Shortly before the end of the Second World War in May 1945 , 228 Jewish slave laborers were murdered by an unknown SS commando in a so-called final phase crime in the town of Hofamt Priel . Franz Winkler, who worked in the area as the gendarmerie district inspector , began investigating the perpetrators immediately after the incident, but those responsible could never be found.
