Maria Föhrenbach (born February 7, 1883 in Oberkirch , † September 15, 1961 in Freiburg ) founded the sisterhood of the Benedictine Sisters OSB of St. Lioba in 1927 .

Formerly a musician, she worked as a nurse in a hospital during the First World War. As a trained nurse, she ran the St. Hedwig Children's Hospital in Freiburg im Breisgau . Out of the need to be able to effectively support socially disadvantaged mothers and children, she founded a sisterhood with Elisabeth Steinbacher (born September 22, 1876 in Bogenhausen ; † January 27, 1932 in Konstanz ) and Hildegardis Wulff . This was called " Sisters of Saint Lioba " and received church approval in 1927. During the Nazi dictatorship she was subjected to numerous reprisals, but survived this stressful time and was appointed Prioress General in 1955. In 1961 Maria Föhrenbach died and today rests in the monastery cemetery in Freiburg- Günterstal .

In the Rieselfeld district of Freiburg there is Maria-Föhrenbach-Straße.
