history

In a document, a pastor from Falkenberg was mentioned in 1299 and a parish from Falkental, today Straßertal, in 1335 as a manorial foundation. In 1627 the parish passed to the Grafenegg rulership. Today's south-facing (!) Straßer parish church in honor of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was replaced in 1637/1638 by Johann Baptist Verda von Verdenberg, the then owner of the Grafenegg estate, with the financial participation of the citizens of Straß as a replacement for the dilapidated parish church built in the former settlement area. In 1645 the church was damaged by fire during the invasion of Sweden and was restored immediately afterwards. Verdenberg's court architect, Matthias Piazol, planned and carried out the construction. In 1666/1667 the Loreto Chapel was added with Antonio Porta as a donation from Countess Anna Camilla von Enckevoirt. The church was restored in 1963. In 1988 the exterior was restored.

architecture

The early baroque hall church with a transept faces south and has a west tower and attached Loreto chapels.

Furnishing

The high altar around 1640 shows a high altar sheet from 1635/1640 by the Verdenberg court painter Friedrich Stoll with a depiction of the Coronation of Mary, the Archangel Michael, several saints and the Verderberg family of donors: Johann Baptist, Johann Peter, Ferdinand, Maria Katharina, Maria Anna. The high altar bears the flanking figures Leopold and Florian around 1700.

Leopold Mitterhofer (1833) painted the Stations of the Cross.

The organ was built by Leopold Breinbauer (1897). Balthasar Heroldt (1661) cast a bell .
