The Roman Catholic parish church Elsarn im Straßertal stands in the east above the place Elsarn im Straßertal in the market town of Straß im Straßertale in the district of Krems-Land in Lower Austria . The church, consecrated to St. Margaret , belongs to the Hadersdorf deanery in the vicariate Unter dem Manhartsberg of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The church is a listed building .

history

A church in the Mühlbach parish was mentioned in a document in 1157. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the church became a separate parish in 1566 and became a branch of the parish church in Straß im Straßertal . From 1784 to 1966 it was again a parish church. In 2016 two parishes, Straß and Elsarn, were named (!).

The Josephinische Saalbau was built around 1784. A sacristy was added to the north at the end of the 19th century . The porch is from 1957.

architecture

The church is a rectangular building with a retracted apse with a roof turret over the west gable front.

The three -bay, groin vaulted hall has a pressed organ gallery in the west. The stained glass dates from 1903.

Furnishing

The altar with tabernacle and angel statues is from the last quarter of the 18th century.

The organ was built by Johann M. Kauffmann (1907).
