It was first mentioned in a document in 1148 and rebuilt by Rueger von Zaucha between 1286 and 1300. Between the 15th and 18th centuries it was the destination of pilgrimages to the Virgin Mary. Its own parish has existed since 1632. Until 1792 the church was incorporated into the Niederaltaich monastery.
