List of train stations in Austria |
The Krems station on the Danube is a transit station and railway junction in the Lower Austrian Central Region. It is the end point of an electrified junction of the Franz-Josefs-Bahn (opened in 1872, electrified in 1982) and the starting point for the non-electrified routes to St. Pölten Hauptbahnhof (opened in 1879) and the Wachau ( Donauuferbahn ; opened in 1909). On the eastern Danube shore line, however, only seasonal nostalgic trains run in the summer half-year, scheduled passenger and freight train traffic no longer takes place in the Krems – Sarmingstein section. It is one of the western border points of the VOR ( Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region ).
The station has a multi-storey car park with free parking spaces ( Park & Ride ) and there are also covered bicycle parking spaces.

They open up all the different districts of Krems: Line 1 goes to Stein, Line 2 to Mitterau, the destination of Line 3 is Lerchenfeld, Line 4 runs in the Kremstal and on the Turnerberg.
At the bus station Krems many regional bus routes start Postbus . The buses open up the area around Krems ( Langenlois , Senftenberg , Egelsee ), the Waldviertel ( Zwettl ) and the Wachau ( Melk ).
railway station
In the station hall there is a supermarket , a tobacco shop , the ÖBB travel center , a pay phone and a ticket machine . The supermarket is also open on Sundays.
The station has two platforms (house and island platform) and five platform edges (divided into sectors). The trains towards Vienna and on the Kamptalbahn Absdorf-Hippersdorf usually leave from platform 2A or 3A, the trains towards Horn and Sigmundsherberg from platform 1A or 11, and the trains to Spitz, Emmersdorf and St. Valentin ran until the Donauuferbahn was closed from platform 1B, 2B or 21 and the trains to St. Pölten Hauptbahnhof depart from platform 3B or 21. There are exceptions, however.
The bus station for regional bus lines and a short-term parking zone is located on the station forecourt (longer parking spaces must go to the parking deck). The taxi stand and the stop of the city bus lines can be reached through a roof protected from the weather.
All platforms and the parking deck can be reached barrier-free by lifts .
modification
The station was rebuilt as part of the station offensive by around 2.7 million euros. The station concourse has been renovated and the ticket office has been replaced by a travel center. The house platform (platforms 1, 11 and 21) received a new roof and was repaved. Two elevators were installed to enable barrier-free access to all platforms and the parking deck. The forecourt was redesigned by the city of Krems together with the bus station. The new station was opened in September 2004.
