The Absdorf-Hippersdorf Station is a transportation hub at the Franz-Josefs-Bahn in Absdorf in Lower Austria .

history

The Absdorf-Hippersdorf station was opened in November 1870 on what was then still a single-track line. The wing runway to Krems , which opened in 1872, was already planned back then . Another connection, the local railway to Stockerau , was opened in 1904.

The Franz-Josefs-Bahn was expanded to two tracks between 1889 and 1905, which upgraded the Absdorf-Hippersdorf station. By 1967 the Franz-Josefs-Bahn was dismantled to Sigmundsherberg on a track. In 1979 the FJB from Tulln to Absdorf-Hippersdorf and the local railway from Stockerau and in 1982 the line to Krems were electrified. With the electrification in 1985 after Sigmundsherberg, the station was electrically accessible from all sides. Despite its importance as a hub station in the direction of Krems, Stockerau (and on to Vienna), Tulln (and on to Vienna) and the Waldviertel, the express trains ran on the Franz-Josefs-Bahn to Prague, Berlin and Hamburg until the 1990s , through the train station without stopping.

investment

The original station was very simple. A first, thorough renovation took place in the 1890s, where two signal boxes, the water tower and a water purification system were built next to the current reception building. The transition walkway and the small bus shelter on the central platform, which were later removed, came from this time.

Situation today

Since the station was completely renovated step by step between 2010 and 2012, barrier-free access to the trains is now possible. All platforms are equipped with modern technical aids such as departure monitors. The station has four platform tracks, the platforms are separated by a central platform. There are two tracks without a platform that are intended for freight trains.

Tracks 1 and 4 are used by the Wiener Schnellbahn , tracks 2 and 3 are used for through traffic towards Waldviertel and Vienna.

To the west of the station, the single-track electrified line to Krems / Danube branches off from the Franz-Josefs-Bahn, which is also only single-track, in the direction of Gmünd . To the east of the station, the line from Stockerau joins the Franz-Josefs-Bahn, which is still double-tracked there.

The station has a Park + Ride facility south of the tracks with 260 free parking spaces. There is also a bus stop at the train station.
