Platforms

Railway lines in the Wiener Neustadt area

The station has ten platforms (1–9, 21). Platform 1b is mainly used by the Aspangbahn (regional trains to Aspang, also REX to Fehring), 1b and 21 are used by the Mattersburger Bahn (direct trains to Sopron and Deutschkreutz), platform 1a by the Pottendorfer line, which is now part of the rapid transit network as a line S60 was integrated (trains to Bruck ad Leitha via Ebenfurth and Vienna main station, as well as regional trains to Neusiedl am See), platform 2b from the outer Aspangbahn (mostly trains with no stops in front of Aspang, to Hartberg, Friedberg, Fehring), platforms 2a, 3, 4 and 5 use the Railjet and EC trains of the Südbahn (from Vienna main station (as of 2016) to Graz, Marburg, Villach, Lienz in East Tyrol, ...) and the regional express trains (REX) / regional trains (R) the Südbahn (Taurus / 1144 locomotive with 5 Wiesel double-decker cars from Retz or Lundenburg via Wien Mitte to Payerbach-Reichenau ), platform 6a is used by other trains of the branch lines (e.g. inner Aspangbahn to Maria Lanzendorf, Triesti ngtalbahn to Weißenbach-Neuhaus via Leobersdorf), platform 7a uses the Gutensteinerbahn and platform 8a uses the Schneebergbahn . The platforms 6b, 7b, 8b and 9b are distributed among other trains of the various branch lines. The express trains on the Südbahn (lines S1, S2, S3) use platforms 1a, 6a, 9a. The EuroCity trains on the route Prague - Vienna - Wiener Neustadt that end here stop at platform 9a, next to which there are other tracks (without platform) that are required for changing locomotives. Since the renovation in 2003, all platforms have been barrier-free. Directly from the station concourse you can comfortably reach the platforms through an underpass, whereby the highly frequented platforms 2/3 and 4/5 of the Südbahn and platforms 1a, 1b / 21 are equipped with escalators. Since 2003, the underpass has also been used to access the tracks from the opposite side (Zehnerviertel), and since summer 2011 also from the new multi-storey car park . At the other end of the platforms, an overpass was built that enables the platforms to be changed and the (old) parking deck to be reached. In 2010 this overpass was demolished and rebuilt.

present

The new construction of the station for 55.3 million euros was successfully completed. The station building itself was completely demolished and rebuilt, the platforms were renovated. The underpass has been rebuilt so that it can be reached directly from the station concourse (in the past, you had to go outside first). Since then, the underpass has also been accessible from the other side and has been equipped with escalators and elevators. At the other end of the platforms, a completely new flyover was built. In the course of the station renovation, the forecourt and bus station were completely redesigned and the street underpass in Kollonitschgasse was modernized. Since then, coaches have also been able to use the underpass, and cyclists and pedestrians can also cross the road in the course of the railway bridge.

past

With the opening of the railway line from Vienna to Wiener Neustadt on June 20, 1841, Wiener Neustadt Central Station also went into operation. The train station has always been an important traffic junction in southern Lower Austria.

The old two-storey station building (there was a restaurant on the second floor) was largely completely run down at the end of the 20th century and was seen by the population as an eyesore in the cityscape. In addition, to get to the platforms, you first had to leave the building to get to the underpass. There were no escalators or elevators.
