The Atrocity Exhibition - Exhibit A ( Engl .: The exhibition of atrocities - Exhibit A ) is the eighth studio album by the American thrash metal band Exodus . The album was released on October 26, 2007 via Nuclear Blast . It marks the return of drummer Tom Hunting and contains the single "Riot Act".

Emergence

In March 2007, drummer Tom Hunting returned to the band after solving his private problems that led to his temporary exit. Hunting replaced Paul Bostaph, who could be heard on the previous album Shovel Headed Kill Machine .

Guitarist Gary Holt wrote all the songs and wrote all the lyrics. An exception is the song "Children of a Worthless God", where Lee Altus wrote most of the music and Rob Dukes wrote the lyrics. The album title is taken from the novel of the same name by British author James Graham Ballard .

The recording began on June 10, 2007 at "Sharkbite Studios" in Oakland . More than the nine songs that actually landed on the album were created during the recording. Eventually, the band finished recording four more songs that were to appear on their next studio album . The recordings for this album were planned for the end of 2008, but did not take place until December 2009. "The Atrocity Exhibition - Exhibit A" was produced and mixed by Andy Sneap in the Backstage Studios in Derby .

On October 17, 2007, the entire album was offered as a stream on the band's MySpace page . A music video was shot in September 2007 for the song "Riot Act" . Directed by Jon Schnepp.

backgrounds

The texts written by Gary Holt are directed against organized religion , which Holt called "poison" in an interview. “Children of a Worthless God” is about Islamic fundamentalism . The theme song and “Iconoclasm” deal with Christianity as a way of controlling people. "As it Was, As it Soon Shall Be" deals with the Iraq war . "Riot Act" is about revolution and anarchy .

reception

The German rock-hard magazine named “The Atrocity Exhibition - Exhibit A” “Album of the Month”. The editor Frank Albrecht praised the album as "a record that can give Thrash Metal new energy" and a "must have for all Thrash-Lunatics and other people who love it hard, fast and stylish".

The album reached number 74 in the German album charts. In the US, the album sold 3,600 times in the first week.

useful information

  • The song “Bedlam 1-2-3” actually has a total playing time of 19:51, but ends at 8:00. This is followed by a silence until 6:07 pm, before the hidden track "Bonded by Banjo" (sometimes also called "Banjoed by Blood") begins. The hidden track is a new recording of the band classic "Bonded by Blood" in country style. This remake was recorded by Tom Hunting on the microphone and Jack Gibson on the banjo.
  • The untitled hidden track and actual track 10 on the CD only takes six seconds. You can hear someone, possibly a band member, screaming the words "That Was Some Heavy Shit".
