Fabulous Disaster is the third studio album by the US thrash metal band Exodus . It was released in Europe in 1988 via Music for Nations and in North America in 1989 via Combat Records .
Emergence
In April 1988 the band was signed by the major label Capitol Records . For legal reasons, the album Fabulous Disaster still had to be released by their previous record company Combat Records. The album was recorded in the Alpha & Omega Recordings studio in San Francisco . Was produced Fabulous Disaster by Marc Senesac, Gary Holt and Rick Hunolt.
For the album, the band recorded two cover versions : On the one hand, the song Low Rider by the American funk band War from 1975 and the song Overdose by the Australian hard rock band AC / DC from 1977. As a guest musician Dov Christopher, who plays the intro to The Last Act of Defiance and the harmonica in the song Cajun Hell , and Brian Mantilla as percussionist in the song Low Rider can be heard. A music video was shot for the song The Toxic Waltz .
reception
Allmusic's Eduardo Rivadavia described Fabulous Disaster as "the band's most diverse and well-thought-out work". Holger Stratmann from the German magazine Rock Hard spoke of an “by no means disappointing album”, but criticized that there would be “too much idle time” between the first two and the last song. Stratmann rated the album with 8.5 out of ten points. Alex Straka from the online magazine Powermetal.de described Fabulous Disaster as the last creative high point in the band's history for a long time. Reviewer Matt from the online magazine The Metal Observer spoke in his review of a "good, solid album" that "goes well with the band's early works" but "does not match the class of its two predecessors". In his opinion, the band “should have used the song Low Rider as a b-side ”.
Fabulous Disaster reached number 82 in the US and 67 in the UK album charts. The German magazine Rock Hard put it on a list of 250 Thrash Metal albums that you should know about in 2009.
